Lawmakers pen plan to get rid of Pa. school property taxes

HARRISBURG, Pa. – A group of bipartisan lawmakers has penned a plan to get rid of school property taxes in Pennsylvania.

Senate Bill 76 would replace the revenue generated by those taxes by increasing both personal income and sales taxes.

The personal income tax rate would rise from 3.07 percent to 4.95 percent.

The state sales tax would see a jump from six to seven percent, and it would cover more goods and services that are currently exempt.

So far 20 state senators are supporting the bill, including Mario Scavello, Lisa Boscola and David Argall.
